Monuments to Time, 02

$150.00

Layered Ink on Paper.
12 x 12 inches

My works on paper are constructions of the imagination exploring form, volume and interpretations of the natural world. Layers of ink, gouache, graphite and embroidered knots are built up on the paper’s surface till a structure with dimension is formed. Working on paper allows me to become lost in the process of making. It is an essential daily practice that acts as a sieve, fleshing out what is most important and informing the larger works in the studio.

About This Work:

Drawing is a daily exercise that allows for the isolation of form and the opportunity to intimately know a particular space, real and imagined. Monuments to Time began by drawing the massive granite ledges that separate soil from sea along the northern coast of Maine. As I began to really know these forms and how they were shaped, I started to create my own. Monuments to Time is an ongoing series of invented landscapes that explores the effects of time and the ever-changing environment on seemingly imperishable raw materials. Note: This very same granite rock has been quarried for use as the base materials of many monuments found throughout the United States: JFK Memorial and Abingdon Square Doughboy, West Village, among others.

This work is signed on the back and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.  There is only one of these, no prints available.
