Family Portrait uses 17,000 yellow-tipped quilting pins pushed directly into the wall. The wall of family portraits is a ubiquitous element of how we envision the ideal family life. Yet, every family has something that isn’t quite right, a piece of the puzzle that is askew. For this wall installation, I recreated the outline of a wall of family pictures with the picture planes absent of any family memento. One of the squares is slightly askew, typical in a wall of portraits and the family itself.
